The sea starts 43 metres from our door, but the best swimming is a short drive away. Here is where we actually take our own children, with how to reach each one.
The city beach
Straight across the promenade. Not the best for swimming, but our children prefer it: coloured stones to find, rocks to climb, a quick dip before dinner.
Spiaggia di San Vito
The nearest proper beach, soft sand and clear water. Walkable, but under the Sicilian sun a bike or the car is the wiser idea. (This is Mazara’s own San Vito, not San Vito Lo Capo, which is a full day trip.)
Tonnarella
Turquoise water and pale silver sand — the one everyone in Mazara grew up on, and where we still go. A wide sandy stretch that suits families, and breezy enough for a bit of kitesurfing. We tell you where to park and which lido is worth it.
Capo Feto
A WWF reserve with dunes and shallow, warm water. Wilder and quieter than the lidos — for a beach that feels like nature rather than sunbeds.
Puzziteddu (Pozzitello)
A quieter, more natural stretch of coast a little further out, for when you want space and few people around.
Quattro Fontane
A long sandy beach that works well for families, with room to spread out.
